Why data rights determine what a company can license

A company can only license data it has clear authority over. Rights review happens early in every SourceX transaction so deals are built on solid ground.

The rights question

Not all data in a company's systems is the company's to license. Employee communications, customer data and third-party content each carry different considerations.

What rights review establishes

  • What the company has authority to license.
  • What requires anonymization or exclusion.
  • What consents or notices may be needed.

Why it protects everyone

  • The company avoids legal exposure.
  • The buyer receives clean, defensible rights (Reuters legal coverage).
  • The deal survives scrutiny.

What this means for partners

You never need to assess rights yourself. Introduce a qualifying company — typically 50+ full-time employees at peak — and SourceX handles the review. If a deal closes and SourceX collects its fee, you earn 25% of that fee, up to $100,000 per company.
