PDF bank statement to CSV converter
Choose your bank's layout, select a text-based PDF statement, review the transactions found, then download a CSV with date, description, amount and balance. The PDF is read entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, stored or sent to SourceX.
Private: your file stays in this browser tab
Inputs
- Bank layout
- Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, or generic.
- PDF statement
- A downloaded, text-based statement (not a scan).
- Statement year
- Used when lines show only month and day.
Outputs
- Transaction table
- Date, description, amount, balance.
- Totals
- Credits, debits and net change.
- CSV file
- Ready for Excel, Google Sheets or accounting software.
How it is calculated
Your browser extracts the text of each page, rebuilds lines from text positions, and keeps lines that start with a date and end with one or two amounts. With two amounts, the last is treated as the running balance.
Parentheses, a leading minus or a trailing minus mean a debit. For layouts that print withdrawals without a sign, words such as "purchase", "withdrawal", "check" or "fee" mark a debit.
Worked example (illustrative)
Illustrative only: the line "01/05 Online Transfer From Savings 500.00 1,750.25" becomes date 2026-01-05, amount 500.00, balance 1,750.25.
Assumptions and limitations
- Scanned or image-only PDFs have no text to read and will return no rows.
- Bank layouts change; always compare totals with the statement summary before using the file.
- Multi-line descriptions keep only their first line.
- Sign inference from words can misclassify unusual entries; check debits and credits.
- Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first.
Questions and answers
Is my bank statement uploaded?
No. The PDF is opened and parsed in your browser. Nothing is sent to SourceX, and closing the tab discards it.
Which banks are supported?
Named layouts for Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo checking statements, plus a generic layout for most other US banks.
Why did it find no transactions?
The PDF is probably a scan, or the layout differs. Try the generic layout, or download the statement again as a PDF from online banking.
Can I import the CSV into accounting software?
Yes. Columns are date (YYYY-MM-DD), description, amount (negative for debits) and balance, which most tools accept after mapping columns.
