Illustrative case study: an approved company introduction

A hypothetical example showing each step from introduction to a paid referral reward. Not a real company or result.

The situation

A fractional COO works with a regional logistics company that has documented its warehouse and dispatch procedures for many years. The owner mentions they keep detailed SOPs and exception logs.

Step 1: Asking first

The COO asks the owner whether they would be open to hearing about licensing their operational knowledge. The owner agrees to an introduction.

Step 2: The introduction

The COO registers as a partner and shares their referral link. The owner starts the application through that link, so the introduction is attributed to the partner.

Step 3: SourceX review

SourceX reviews the application: company size, years of documentation, who controls the records, and whether any material belongs to clients. The company moves through Under review to Qualified.

Step 4: Deal and delivery

The company completes a qualifying licensing deal, the data is accepted and the buyer pays. Only now does SourceX collect its platform fee.

Step 5: Reward

The partner's reward becomes eligible at 25% of the eligible collected fee, within the $100,000 per-company cap. After approval and a recorded payout, it shows as Paid.

What made it work

  • Owner consent before any introduction
  • Company-created, consistently documented material
  • A decision maker involved from the start
