Referral program for venture and private equity investors
Investors see dozens of companies sitting on years of tickets, code and customer conversations. Introducing a portfolio company to SourceX gives it a way to license that history to AI developers, and you can earn up to $100,000 in referral fees if its deal closes.
Why your network holds licensable data
Venture-backed software companies often hold exactly what AI labs ask for: long-running helpdesks, private codebases with review histories, and CRMs with years of won and lost deals.
A data license is revenue for the company that doesn’t require selling equity, and the company keeps ownership of its data. Each business approves scope, permitted use and terms before anything is shared.
Portfolio companies that are winding down can also license their archives, which can add to what investors and creditors recover. See the wind-down advisors page.
Companies to look for
- Software companies with 20 or more full-time employees and several years of operations
- Large support, sales or engineering teams relative to company size
- Companies in domains with little public data, such as healthcare administration, logistics, insurance or finance operations
- Companies preparing a wind-down or asset sale
How to raise it
- Mention it at a board meeting or portfolio check-in, and share the qualification criteria.
- If the founder is interested, get their permission before you pass on their details.
- Submit the referral with the founder or operator who would own the decision as the contact.

Check first
- Check your fund documents: some fund agreements require fees the manager earns from portfolio-company transactions to be disclosed to investors or offset against management fees.
- The company’s management and board decide whether to license. Tell them you would receive a referral fee.
- Don’t share company data or internal documents with SourceX yourself. A description of what the company holds is enough.
- Health records, billing and claims data are protected health information. Licensing them generally needs patient authorization or HIPAA-standard de-identification.

Questions
Can a fund refer several portfolio companies?
Yes. Submit one referral per company.
Does licensing data affect a later acquisition?
A data license is a contract the company keeps, so a future acquirer will review it in diligence like any customer contract. Terms such as exclusivity and permitted use matter most, and the company approves them before signing.
Know a company with years of records?
Introduce the company to SourceX. If its data deal closes, you can earn up to $100,000 in referral fees, paid after the buyer accepts the data and SourceX receives payment.
