Introduction email templates for commercial bankers and relationship managers

Commercial bankers can introduce a borrower to SourceX with three short emails: a permission check, a single introduction with the owner copied, and a close-out. Check your bank's outside-compensation policy first, keep credit matters out of every message, and step back once SourceX responds.

When should a banker use an introduction email?

Use these templates after a borrower has told you, in a review meeting or a call, that they are open to hearing about licensing their operating records. The email follows a conversation the owner already agreed to; it is never the first contact. The relationship manager introduces and steps back, and SourceX handles qualification, inventory, pricing and contracting.

Three emails cover the whole arc: a permission check sent to the borrower, the introduction itself, and a short close-out once SourceX has made contact. Each one is short on purpose. Bankers are trusted with confidential financials, so the safest email contains the least.

What does a banker need to settle before sending anything?

Settle your employer's rules first. Banks commonly have codes of conduct and outside-activities or gift policies that limit compensation from third parties, and those rules differ by institution. Nothing here tells a bank employee that they may accept a reward.

  • Ask compliance or your supervisor in writing whether you can take part in a partner program at all.
  • If participation is allowed, ask whether any reward may be received personally, routed elsewhere, or declined, and how it must be disclosed to the borrower.
  • Confirm that the introduction does not touch credit decisions, pricing or covenants on the relationship.
  • Keep a note of the owner's permission to introduce them, dated.

If the answer is no, you can still point a client to the company fit checker or to the company's own application at sourcex.si/apply without being a partner. This is general information, not legal, tax or financial advice. Confirm with your own compliance team before acting.

Template 1: the permission check

Send this when the borrower raised the topic but has not agreed to an introduction. It asks one question and gives an easy exit.

Template 2: the introduction

Send this only after a yes. Copy the owner or the authorized sponsor, whoever holds the decision on licensing, and address it to the SourceX contact or use the referral link described in how it works.

The introduction email builder can prepare an owner-approved version of this email, and the introduction handoff email covers the exact wording for stepping out of the thread.

Template 3: the close-out to the borrower

Send this a few days after SourceX has made contact, or when the owner goes quiet.

How do you personalize the placeholders?

PlaceholderSourceKeep it to
{number_of_years}The borrower's own account of how long operations have been documentedYears, not figures or customers
{two_or_three_systems}What the owner said in the review: CRM, finance system, helpdeskSystem categories only, never contents
{headcount_band}Public information or the owner's wordsA band, such as 50 to 200, never exact payroll
{industry}Your own account notesA generic label
{review_month}Your calendarThe month only

What is the follow-up timing?

DayAction
0Send the permission check right after the review, while the topic is fresh
3 to 5One reminder only if the owner has not answered
After yesSend the introduction within one business day
3 to 5 after introductionSend the close-out, then do nothing more

Two follow-ups total is the limit. A banker who chases a borrower about something unrelated to the loan damages the relationship that matters more.

What must never go in the email?

  • Any statement about the borrower's financial statements, covenants, balances or credit file.
  • Any promise that the company will be paid, qualifies or will close a deal. Nothing is binding until the company agrees price and terms and signs.
  • A reward amount. Refer readers to the rewards page, where 25% of eligible platform fees SourceX actually collects applies, capped at $100,000 per referred company, and only after the buyer pays and SourceX receives its fee. No reward is guaranteed.
  • Descriptions or attachments of the borrower's records. Partners never export, upload or describe confidential records.
  • Any suggestion that the introduction affects the loan.

Next step

Check your bank's policy, then test the fit with one borrower you already know well using the who qualifies baseline. If both are clear, register as a partner and send Template 1. Sibling templates for other roles include the EOS implementer email.

Common questions

Can a bank employee take part in a partner program?

That depends entirely on the bank. Many institutions restrict outside compensation and third-party referral arrangements through a code of conduct. Ask compliance in writing before you register or send any email, and follow their instruction on disclosure to the borrower. If they say no, do not take part.

Should the email mention the loan or the borrower's financials?

No. Keep the email free of anything from the credit file. The introduction rests on what the owner said about their records and systems, and you should state plainly that the introduction has no bearing on credit decisions or terms.

Who at the borrower should receive the introduction?

The person with authority to license the company's records: the owner, CEO, CFO or another authorized representative. Copying a controller or IT lead without the owner's agreement can create confusion about who decides, so ask the owner who else to include.

What if the borrower says yes but never replies to SourceX?

Send one short nudge to the owner, then stop. SourceX works with the company directly after the introduction, and a banker pressing for a response blurs the line between the lending relationship and an unrelated opportunity.

Does the company need to be a borrower to qualify?

No. The program baseline concerns the company itself: 50+ full-time employees at peak (contractors excluded), several years of documented operations, rights to license the data and an authorized sponsor. Being your borrower is not a requirement or a qualification.
