Data Opportunity Handoff Checklist for Business Sales
A data opportunity handoff checklist ensures the referred company meets SourceX's baseline criteria for data licensing, covering company profile, licensing rights, and authorized sponsorship. This streamlined process helps M&A advisors identify viable opportunities for their clients.
For M&A advisors, identifying and preparing a target company for potential data licensing can add significant value to a business sale. SourceX provides the enterprise data transaction layer for AI, managing data licensing from sourcing and rights review to delivery and payment (F09). By using a structured handoff checklist, you can ensure the referred company aligns with SourceX's requirements, paving the way for successful introductions and potential rewards.
SourceX partners earn 25% of the eligible platform fees SourceX actually collects from the referred company's licensing deals, up to $100,000 cumulative per referred company (F01, F02). Rewards become payable only after the buyer pays and SourceX receives its fee (F03).
Your Handoff Checklist
Use this checklist to evaluate a company's readiness for a SourceX introduction. Completing these items ensures a smoother process and maximizes the chances of a successful referral.
1. Company Profile & Baseline Qualification
- US-Based Entity: The company is incorporated and operates primarily in the United States.
- Employee Count: The company had 50 or more full-time employees at its peak (contractors are excluded from this count) (F06).
- Operating Records: The company possesses years of operating records, demonstrating a history of data collection and management (F06).
2. Data Licensing Rights & Archival Practices
- Rights to License: The company unequivocally holds the necessary rights to license its data (F06).
- _Consider:_ Are there any third-party agreements, privacy policies, or legal restrictions that might impede data licensing?
- Data Archive Types: Identify the primary types of data archives the company maintains. These could include:
- [ ] Customer interaction logs
- [ ] Transactional data
- [ ] Operational performance metrics
- [ ] Product usage analytics
- [ ] Other relevant proprietary datasets
3. Authorized Sponsor & Point of Contact
- Authorized Sponsor: A senior executive or authorized individual within the company is identified who can champion the data licensing initiative and is empowered to make decisions regarding data usage and commercialization (F06).
- Responsive Contact: The authorized sponsor is prepared to engage with SourceX promptly for verification and further discussion.
4. Important Considerations for Partners
- No Data Handling: As a partner, you never handle the referred company's data. Your role is solely to make the introduction and ensure the company meets the baseline criteria. SourceX manages data licensing transactions and does not train AI models (F10). The partner reward is a share of SourceX's fee and is never deducted from what the company receives (F07).
- Attribution: Credit for a referral goes to the first valid referrer whose introduction leads to a verified company application within the attribution window (F04).
- Who Can Partner: Anyone from a supported country can join the SourceX partner program. Licensed professionals should always check their own rules on referral fees (F05).
By systematically addressing each point on this checklist, M&A advisors can efficiently pre-qualify potential referrals and present them effectively to SourceX, creating a valuable additional revenue stream for their clients and a rewarding opportunity for themselves.
