What happens after the data is delivered?
After delivery, the buyer checks the data against the agreement, SourceX invoices, and the company receives a one-time payment, typically within about 60 days of invoicing once the buyer selects the data. The buyer may use the data only as the agreement allows, and the partner reward follows payment.
What happens once the data has been handed over?
After delivery, the buyer checks the data against the agreement, SourceX invoices, and the company receives its one-time payment, typically within about 60 days of invoicing once the buyer selects the data. During the term, the buyer uses the data only as the agreement allows. The partner who made the introduction is paid last, after SourceX receives its fee.
Delivery is not the first step of a relationship with a buyer; it is the near-last step of a process the company controlled. Data moves only after an executed agreement and the company's authorization, so by the time anything is handed over, the company has already agreed price, scope and terms.
What is the sequence from signature to payment?
The order matters more than the exact dates, because dates depend on the buyer and the agreement.
- Agreement executed. The company has agreed price and terms and signed.
- Authorization to deliver. The company authorizes delivery of the agreed scope, after any de-identification and redaction agreed beforehand.
- Handover. Large deliveries stay in the seller's own storage or ship on encrypted drives, and the handover is recorded; SourceX does not host multi-TB datasets.
- Buyer review and selection. The buyer reviews what was delivered against the agreed description and selects the data.
- Invoice. SourceX invoices on the basis of the agreement.
- Company payment. The company receives a one-time payment, typically within about 60 days of invoicing once the buyer selects the data.
- Partner reward. The partner reward becomes payable only after the buyer pays and SourceX receives its fee.
If you want to see the earlier part of this path, what happens after a company applies to SourceX walks through the stages before signature.
What does the company owe after delivery?
Less than most owners fear, but it is set by the agreement, so read it. The company is licensing, not selling, so it keeps ownership of its data. Typical obligations in data license agreements, which vary, include:
| Topic | What owners usually ask | Where the answer lives |
|---|---|---|
| Accuracy of what was described | Does the delivered data match the inventory? | The agreement and the delivered scope |
| Exclusivity | Can we license the same dataset to someone else during the term? | Deals are typically exclusive for AI training for an agreed term |
| Our own use | Can we keep using our records for our business? | Yes, the company keeps ownership; confirm in the agreement |
| Updates | Do we owe new data later? | Only if the agreement says so |
| Confidentiality | Who may be told about the deal? | See why AI data buyers are often kept confidential |
| Support | Do we help with questions about the data? | As set out in the agreement |
Treat the table as questions to bring to the signing conversation, not as promises about any specific contract.
What can the buyer do with the data afterward?
Only what the agreement permits, for the agreed purpose and term. Who sees the data inside the buyer's organization, how long it is kept, and whether it is deleted are agreement terms, not defaults. How long an AI buyer keeps licensed data, and whether it is deleted covers what to ask. Who sees our data during a licensing deal explains access stage by stage.
A related question is whether the company can change its mind later. Can we revoke a data license if we regret it? covers what termination usually can and cannot undo. The practical lesson is that limits belong in the agreement before signature.
What if something goes wrong after delivery?
Late payment, quality complaints or scope disputes are handled under the agreement, which is why it matters to read the terms on acceptance and payment. As a partner you are not a party to that agreement and should not intervene or promise outcomes. If an owner raises a concern, send them to SourceX and their own counsel.
For exports specifically, owners with CRM or ERP data often worry about the mechanics of getting records out safely. The adviser view is in answering "is exporting our data safe?".
What does the partner see and when?
Very little, and by design. Partners never handle data. You will know the introduction was made; for anything about status, ask SourceX. Your reward becomes payable only after the buyer pays and SourceX receives its fee; a lead, meeting or signed agreement alone does not trigger payment. The sponsor-level reputational view is in portfolio data licensing and reputational risk. The referral earnings calculator shows how the reward formula works using the published program.
Next step
If an owner you know is deciding whether the process is worth starting, hand them this sequence and register as a partner to make the introduction. Companies can also start at sourcex.si/apply. Partners earn 25% of eligible platform fees SourceX actually collects, capped at $100,000 cumulative per referred company; rewards are not guaranteed. More answers are in the FAQ.

- Step 2Company appliesThe company applies itself at /apply.
- Step 3Buyer selects and paysThe buyer selects and pays for the data and SourceX receives its fee.
- Step 4You get your rewardYour share of SourceX fees becomes payable.
Common questions
When does the company actually get paid?
The company receives a one-time payment, typically within about 60 days of invoicing once the buyer selects the data. The exact timing follows the agreement. A signature or a delivery alone does not mean payment has been made; the buyer must pay and SourceX must receive its fee first.
Does the company still own its data after delivery?
Yes. Data is licensed, not sold, and the company keeps ownership. The license grants the buyer defined rights for an agreed term, typically exclusive for AI training. What the buyer may do beyond that, and what happens at the end of the term, are agreement terms the company should confirm with counsel.
Can the company keep using its own records?
Generally the company continues to run its business on its own records, since it keeps ownership. The restriction in a typical deal is on licensing the same data to others for AI training during the term. Confirm the exact wording of any exclusivity and permitted use in the agreement before signing.
When is the partner reward paid?
The partner reward becomes payable only after the buyer pays and SourceX receives its fee. A lead, a meeting or a signed agreement does not trigger payment. The reward is 25% of eligible platform fees collected, capped at $100,000 cumulative per referred company, and it is not guaranteed.
Where is large data stored during delivery?
Large deliveries stay in the seller's own storage or ship on encrypted drives, and the handover is recorded. SourceX does not host multi-TB datasets. Delivery happens only after an executed agreement and the company's authorization, with any agreed de-identification or redaction completed beforehand.
