How Dutch advisors can refer US companies from a European HQ relationship
Dutch advisers can refer a US company by using their European HQ relationship to reach the US parent's authorized sponsor. The operating company needs 50+ full-time employees at peak, years of records and rights to license them. Check NBA rules, BTW, KVK and US tax paperwork before accepting any reward.
What can Dutch advisers do with a US parent relationship?
Dutch advisers can introduce the US parent of a Netherlands-based European headquarters to SourceX, because a European HQ in Amsterdam, Rotterdam or Eindhoven gives you regular contact with the group's finance and operations leaders. If the US company has 50+ full-time employees at peak (contractors excluded), years of records and an authorized sponsor, and it licenses data through SourceX, you can earn a reward once the deal is paid.
The Netherlands hosts many European headquarters, regional distribution hubs and shared service centers of US groups. That makes Dutch accountants, tax advisers, ZZP consultants, interim finance managers and ERP specialists unusually close to the people who decide things in the United States.
Which of your Dutch relationships point to an eligible US company?
| Relationship | Who you reach | Question to ask yourself |
|---|---|---|
| Accountant for the Dutch BV of a US group | Dutch finance director, then the US CFO | Is the US operating company 50+ full-time employees at peak? |
| Tax adviser on transfer pricing or VAT | Group tax head | Does the group have long-running systems of record? |
| Interim controller or CFO | Whoever hired you | Do I know where the group stores finance and support history? |
| ERP or CRM consultant | IT director | Which platforms are being migrated or retired? |
| ZZP adviser to a US-owned scale-up | Founder or US sponsor | Do the records belong to the company, not its clients? |
The EU HQ itself is usually not the licensor. The data rights sit with the US operating company or the group entity that created the records, so read the structure before you pitch.
The HQ-versus-operating-company check
Ask these four questions in your first conversation with the Dutch finance lead.
- Which legal entity runs the customer-facing business, and where is it incorporated?
- Which entity employs the people who generate the records?
- Who holds the contracts that would govern licensing, and do they allow it?
- Who in the US is the owner, CEO, CFO or authorized representative?
If the answers point to a Dutch BV with a small team and no operating history of its own, the company probably does not qualify. If they point to a US company with hundreds of people and a decade of systems, continue. The company fit checker is a non-binding first screen.
How does the introduction work?
- Sign up at /register and share your referral link, or submit the company through the referral form.
- SourceX checks size, history, data breadth and rights with the US sponsor.
- The company builds its own data inventory: each system, years covered, what can be exported. The data inventory builder helps list systems.
- Price and terms are agreed with the company, which signs only if they work for it.
- AI labs and data buyers review; a deal-ready company typically hears back within about two weeks.
- After closing, delivery follows the agreed redaction rules and the company is paid.
- SourceX pays your reward once its own fee has arrived.
You do not handle records at any point. You provide the introduction and basic fit information such as size, history and the sponsor's name.
What should a Dutch adviser say?
Do not promise results or mention reward amounts.
Which Dutch rules and filings should you check?
Dutch professionals tend to ask the same four questions. Answer each with your own adviser, not from this page.
| Topic | What to check |
|---|---|
| NBA rules | If you are a registered accountant, the NBA referral fee and independence page explains where to look. Independence rules are usually stricter for audit and assurance clients. |
| KVK registration and legal form | Whether occasional referral income fits your eenmanszaak, VOF or BV and whether you need any new registration |
| BTW (VAT) | How VAT treats a service supplied to a US payer; depends on your facts and structure |
| Tax paperwork for the US payer | A foreign individual is typically asked for Form W-8BEN, which goes to the payer and not to the IRS; the IRS explains it on its About Form W-8 BEN page. A company uses Form W-8BEN-E instead |
| GDPR | If the group's records include EU personal data, raise it with the company's counsel before the inventory starts |
For a consultancy filing as an entity, the W-8BEN-E guide for advisory firms walks through the form. This is general information, not legal, tax or financial advice. Confirm with your own counsel, tax adviser or professional body before acting.
How do partner rewards work?
Partners earn 25% of the eligible platform fees SourceX actually collects from the referred company's licensing deals, capped at $100,000 per referred company. The reward is paid only after the buyer pays and SourceX receives its fee; an introduction, meeting or signed agreement alone does not trigger payment, and no reward is guaranteed. The reward is a share of SourceX's fee and is never deducted from what the company receives. The referral earnings calculator illustrates the formula, and the program terms set the details.
Why group approval matters for a Dutch HQ
A Dutch HQ often does not own the data decision. The US board, a private equity sponsor or the group general counsel may need to approve a license of group records. Use the Dutch contact for access, not for a yes.
An Illustrative scenario: a fictional US logistics software group runs its European HQ from the Netherlands. The Dutch finance director agrees the idea sounds interesting but says the decision sits with the US CFO. You ask for a joint introduction, and the CFO takes it from there. The Dutch director never needs to describe any records.
When is it not a fit?
- The Dutch entity is a sales office and the US operating company has under the baseline headcount at peak.
- The group has already licensed its data for AI training.
- The company is your audit client, or your professional rules or firm policy bar referral fees.
- Most of the records are consumer or patient data with no licensing basis.
Other markets work differently; see the guides for Singapore, the UAE, the Nordics and Canada, or the overview for international partners.
Next step
Pick one US-owned group where you already advise the Dutch entity, run the HQ-versus-operating-company check and then register as a partner to make the introduction.
- Step 1Share your linkSend your personal link to a company you know.
- Step 2Company appliesThe company applies itself at /apply.
- Step 3Buyer selects and paysThe buyer selects and pays for the data and SourceX receives its fee.
- Step 4You get your rewardYour share of SourceX fees becomes payable.
Common questions
Can a ZZP consultant join the referral program?
Anyone can join from any supported country, including self-employed consultants. Your tax position, registration status and any VAT questions depend on your own situation, so ask your tax adviser. A US payer may request Form W-8BEN from a foreign individual before paying.
Does a Dutch BV count as the company that licenses data?
Only if the BV itself holds substantial records and meets the baseline. In most cases the licensor is the US operating company that employs 50+ full-time employees at peak and created the records. Check which entity owns the systems and the customer contracts.
Are Dutch accountants allowed to accept referral fees?
This depends on the NBA rules, your firm's policies and whether you provide audit or assurance services to the company. This site does not say you may take a fee. Read the current rules, ask your professional body and decline if unsure.
What if the US group has employees in the EU whose messages are in Slack?
That is a privacy question for the company's counsel. Datasets containing EU personal data can raise GDPR issues even for a US seller. SourceX agrees de-identification and redaction requirements with the company before any work begins.
Who decides whether the US company licenses its data?
An authorized sponsor, meaning the owner, CEO, CFO or authorized representative, together with any group or board approvals the company needs. Nothing is binding until the company agrees price and terms and signs, so your Dutch contact alone cannot commit it.
