What is in a data license agreement?

A data license agreement defines what data is covered, what the buyer may do with it, how it is protected, what is paid and how long the rights last.

The core terms

  • Scope. Which datasets, covering what period.
  • Permitted uses. Training, evaluation, fine-tuning — and what is excluded.
  • Protections. Anonymization standards, security requirements, deletion obligations.
  • Payment. Amount, structure and timing.
  • Duration and exclusivity. How long rights last and whether they are sole.

Why every term matters

The difference between a safe transaction and a liability is in these definitions. Reported deals are structured documents negotiated by specialists — not handshakes (Reuters).

Who handles it

SourceX structures and negotiates the agreement; the company reviews and accepts the terms before anything is transacted.

What this means for partners

Companies you introduce are never committed until they accept terms. Introduce a qualifying company — typically 50+ full-time employees at peak — and if a deal closes and SourceX collects its fee, you earn 25% of that fee, up to $100,000 per company.
