Assess energy and utility businesses for operational data fit

SourceX evaluates energy and utility businesses for operational data licensing by assessing their operating maturity, original documentation, data rights, and relevance to specific AI buyer programs. Key considerations include the presence of proprietary operational data like engineering logs, infrastructure maintenance records, or grid performance analytics.

Assess Energy and Utility Businesses for Operational Data Fit

SourceX evaluates energy and utility companies for their potential to license valuable operational data to AI buyers. For partners introducing businesses in this sector, understanding the assessment criteria helps in identifying strong referral candidates. We look for companies with proprietary operational data that can provide unique insights relevant to specific buyer programs.

Key Considerations for Energy & Utility Companies

When assessing an energy or utility company, SourceX focuses on several aspects of their operational profile:

Operating Maturity: Many buyer programs seek companies with substantial operating history and established internal processes, often with 20 or more full-time employees. Smaller, specialized firms with unique data may also qualify. Original Documentation: We look for internally generated materials that reflect the company's unique operations. For energy and utility businesses, this could include: Engineering logs and project histories. Infrastructure maintenance records and sensor data. Grid performance analytics and demand forecasting data. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for plant operations, distribution, or customer service. Detailed service disruption reports and resolution workflows. Rights to License: Crucially, the company must own the data or have explicit rights to license it without breaching client confidentiality, employee privacy, or third-party contracts. Data directly related to the company's core operations, rather than client-specific information, is generally preferred. Authorized Sponsor: A founder, executive, or designated decision-maker must be prepared to discuss data licensing opportunities. Relevance to Buyer Demand: The data must align with existing AI buyer programs. SourceX performs this validation during its review process.

Illustrative: A utility company with a decade of detailed infrastructure maintenance records, including sensor data from critical equipment and documented repair procedures, would be a strong candidate. Similarly, an energy provider with proprietary operational data on grid stability, renewable energy integration, or demand response programs could be of significant interest.

What Data is Typically Not a Fit?

Certain types of data or situations are generally not suitable for SourceX's programs:

Personal consumer data, scraped data, or data the company does not directly control. Material belonging to the company's clients rather than the company itself. Businesses that only wish to sell a single file without accompanying documentation or context. Introductions made without the direct knowledge and consent of a company decision-maker.

For a preliminary, non-binding assessment, partners can utilize the company fit checker.

The Referral Process: From Introduction to Reward

The SourceX referral process is designed to be straightforward, focusing on the quality of the introduction:

  1. Register and get your referral link or submit directly from your dashboard.
  2. Introduce an eligible business from the energy or utility sector.
  3. SourceX reviews the opportunity against buyer program needs and eligibility criteria.
  4. The company completes a qualifying licensing deal. They control what data scope to offer and the terms.
  5. Data is accepted and buyer payment is received. SourceX collects its fee.
  6. Your reward becomes eligible for approval and payment.

Remember, your role is to make the introduction; you do not need to export, upload, or describe confidential records. The referred company retains full control over whether to proceed and what data to share.

Understanding Your Reward

Your reward is directly tied to SourceX's success with your referred company. It is calculated based on SourceX's eligible collected platform fees, not the overall transaction value or the data owner's payout. You can track the status of your referrals on your dashboard, showing stages like Estimated, Eligible, Approved, and Paid.

Explore how rewards are calculated and tracked on our rewards page.

Rewards are calculated as 25% of SourceX's eligible collected platform fees, capped at $100,000 per referred company. A lead, meeting or signed agreement alone does not trigger payment. See the program terms.
