How to explain the difference between an introduction and data delivery

In the SourceX referral program, an introduction is the initial step of connecting a business with SourceX, while data delivery refers to the actual transfer of data by the referred company after a licensing deal is secured. Your role as a referrer is limited to the introduction, with the company controlling data sharing.

Introduction vs. Data Delivery: Understanding Your Role

As a SourceX referral partner, your primary role is to make valuable introductions. It's crucial to understand the distinct phases of an introduction and the eventual data delivery, as your responsibilities and reward eligibility are tied to these stages.

What is an Introduction?

An introduction is the initial connection you facilitate between a business and SourceX. This happens when you share your referral link or submit an introduction directly from your dashboard. Your goal is to connect SourceX with an authorized sponsor – an owner, executive, or their designee – who can discuss licensing their company's proprietary operational data.

Key aspects of an introduction:

Your control: You make the introduction. You are not required to export, upload, or describe any confidential records at this stage, or at any stage. Your role is purely facilitative. Company's control: The introduced company decides whether to engage with SourceX and move forward with discussions. Screening:* SourceX reviews the opportunity based on criteria like operating maturity, original documentation, and relevance to buyer demand. You can use the company fit checker for a preliminary assessment.

What is Data Delivery?

Data delivery occurs much later in the process, after a referred company has completed a qualifying data licensing deal with SourceX. This stage involves the actual transfer of data from the referred company to SourceX, and subsequently to an AI buyer, under specific commercial terms.

Key aspects of data delivery:

Company's control: The company always controls whether to proceed with a licensing deal, what scope of data to offer, and the terms it accepts. Nothing is shared without its explicit approval. SourceX's role: SourceX manages the evaluation, permissions, contracting, preparation, delivery, and payment collection according to the approved transaction. Your involvement:* You have no direct involvement in the data delivery process itself. Your responsibility ends with a successful introduction that leads to a qualifying deal.

Why the Distinction Matters for Referrers

Understanding the difference between an introduction and data delivery is vital for managing expectations regarding your referral rewards.

What does NOT trigger a reward:

Simply submitting a lead or making an introduction. A meeting, a call, or even a signed agreement between SourceX and the company. * If the company was already in discussion with SourceX before your introduction (this goes to duplicate review).

Your reward becomes eligible for approval and payment only after the data is accepted by the buyer and SourceX receives its fee from an eligible collected platform fee. This means the entire process, from introduction through successful data delivery and payment, must be completed.

Tracking Your Referral's Progress

Your dashboard provides transparency on each referral's journey. You'll see stages like Estimated, Eligible, Approved, and Paid. A referral is marked as "Paid" only after the actual payout has been recorded, reflecting the completion of the entire cycle from introduction to successful data delivery and fee collection.

Your role is to open the door; the company and SourceX then navigate the path to a successful data licensing partnership and subsequent delivery. Focus on making high-quality, relevant introductions to businesses that meet the qualification criteria.
