How Australian and NZ advisers can refer US companies to SourceX
Australian and New Zealand advisers can join as partners and introduce US companies they reach through US-parented local operations or ANZ groups with US subsidiaries. The licensing company must be a US business with 50+ full-time employees at peak, documented history, rights and an authorized sponsor. Rewards are paid only after SourceX collects its fee.
Can Australian and New Zealand advisers refer US companies?
Yes. Partners can join from any supported country, and ANZ advisers meet eligible US companies in two ways: through the local operations of US-headquartered businesses, and through ANZ groups that own US subsidiaries. You introduce the company; SourceX handles qualification, inventory, buyer review, contracting and delivery.
The introduction has to end at a US company with 50+ full-time employees at peak (contractors excluded), several years of documented operations, rights to license its records and an authorized sponsor. Your local client may be the route in, but it is rarely the licensor.
Who in ANZ is best placed to make the introduction?
Position matters more than title. Ask where you already sit in a US company's decision loop.
| Role | Typical ANZ contact | Where the US link appears |
|---|---|---|
| Chartered accountant or CFO adviser | Country finance manager of a US-parented group | Monthly reporting to a US controller |
| M&A or corporate adviser | Owners of ANZ groups that bought or built a US arm | Acquisition and integration work |
| Business broker or exit planner | Founders with a US subsidiary | Sale preparation and vendor due diligence |
| ERP or CRM implementation partner | IT leads of US-owned local entities | Global platform rollouts |
| Law or advisory boutique | General counsel of ANZ-US groups | Contract reviews and restructures |
In each case the person who matters is the US owner, CEO, CFO or authorized representative. The local manager can sponsor the conversation internally but cannot approve a license.
The Pacific 4 screen
Use these four questions on any client with a US link.
- Principal entity: is the licensing entity a US business, with 50+ full-time employees at peak and several years of documented operations?
- Own records: were the records created by that US entity, rather than by local staff on behalf of customers?
- Open door: can you reach the US sponsor, directly or through one trusted contact?
- Open mind: would the sponsor consider an exclusive AI-training license for a fixed term in return for a single payment?
The company fit checker gives a preliminary screen with no contact details, and who qualifies sets out the baseline in full.
How do you handle a day-long time gap?
Australia and New Zealand sit roughly a day ahead of the US: Sydney's morning is the previous evening in New York, and Auckland is further ahead still. That shapes how you introduce, not whether you can.
- Send the first message in writing, timed to land at the start of the US working day.
- Keep it to four sentences with one clear ask: permission to share a short note from SourceX.
- Let SourceX run scheduling. Calls with the sponsor happen in US hours without you being on them.
- Use your local overlap, the end of your day and the start of theirs, only for relationship follow-up.
What does the process look like after the introduction?
Partners make introductions and share basic fit information only. You never export, upload or describe confidential records.
- Sign up as a partner, then either share your referral link or file the company through the referral form.
- The US sponsor applies at sourcex.si/apply; the referral code on the link keeps your credit.
- SourceX screens the company for size, history, breadth of data and rights to license.
- The company builds its data inventory and settles on one all-in price and the terms.
- Buyers look at the offer, and once a company is deal-ready they typically respond within about two weeks.
- The deal closes, data is delivered, the company is paid, and your reward follows once SourceX has received its fee.
What should you say to a US-parented group's country head?
Adapt it with the introduction email builder.
When in the ANZ financial year should you raise it?
| Moment | Why it fits | Question to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Financial year-end (Australia's tax year ends 30 June; NZ year-ends vary by company) | Finance teams review systems and costs | Which legacy systems are being retired? |
| Group audit and reporting season | Records are being pulled together anyway | Do the oldest archives still exist and can they be exported? |
| Acquisition or sale of an ANZ-US group | Asset lists are being compiled | Should licensing be decided before or after the transaction? |
| US platform rollout in the local entity | Local tools are being replaced | Is the US head office keeping a full export? |
Which ANZ situations are poor fits?
- The records are mostly held for customers by a local services arm, and the customers have not agreed to a license.
- The US entity is a sales office with a handful of employees, well under the 50+ full-time baseline at peak.
- The group uses a US entity only for tax or holding purposes, with no operating history.
- Archives were deleted when an ANZ system was switched off.
- Consumer personal data dominates the records, with no clear licensing basis.
What do ATO, IRD and your professional body expect?
Treat these as your own homework, not something SourceX can answer. Whether a partner reward is business income, whether it carries GST, and how a foreign payer's withholding forms apply are questions for the Australian Taxation Office or Inland Revenue and your adviser. Chartered accountants, financial advisers and lawyers should also read their professional body's rules on referral fees and disclosure, because they vary by profession and sometimes by jurisdiction.
On the US side, the IRS says Form W-8BEN-E is used by a foreign entity to document its foreign status and claim treaty benefits where applicable, and it is given to the payer, not to the IRS. Our walkthrough of the W-8BEN-E for advisory firms covers a typical firm's questions. This is general information, not legal, tax or financial advice. Confirm with your own counsel, tax adviser or professional body before acting.
How are partner rewards calculated?
Partners earn 25% of the eligible platform fees SourceX actually collects from the referred company's licensing deals, capped at $100,000 cumulative per referred company. The reward becomes payable only after the buyer pays and SourceX receives its fee. No reward is guaranteed, and it is a share of SourceX's fee, never deducted from the company's proceeds. The referral earnings calculator shows how the formula works and the program terms govern the details.
Where do other regions differ?
The Singapore guide focuses on APAC hubs and family offices, the UAE guide on Gulf sponsors, and the Nordic guide on European advisers. The global partner overview explains the shared mechanics.

Common questions
Can an Australian group with a US subsidiary be introduced?
The US subsidiary can be, if it is an operating business with 50+ full-time employees at peak, several years of documented records and rights to license them. The Australian parent's records are a separate matter. Start with the US entity's own systems and run the company fit checker before approaching the sponsor.
Does the time difference make this impractical from New Zealand?
No. Your task is the introduction, which is a short written message. SourceX handles qualification and scheduling in US hours. Send your note at the start of the US day, then keep any follow-up to your own time zone overlap at the end of your working day.
Do I charge GST on a partner reward?
It depends on your registration status, your structure and the nature of the supply, so no generic answer is safe. Ask a registered tax agent or adviser and check current ATO or IRD guidance before you register. This is general information, not tax advice.
Can a chartered accountant in Australia or NZ take a referral fee?
Professional bodies set their own rules on commissions, referral fees, independence and disclosure, and these differ between professions. Read the current provisions of your body, speak to your firm's ethics lead and disclose where required before accepting anything. SourceX cannot confirm that you may accept a fee.
What if the US executive wants proof before we talk?
Point them to the how it works and rewards pages, and let them apply directly through your referral link so they can read SourceX's own materials. Do not offer promises about price, buyers or payment: nothing is binding until the company agrees price and terms and signs.
