How Google Workspace partners can refer clients for AI data licensing

Google Workspace partners can earn a reward by introducing US clients with 50+ full-time employees at peak and years of Gmail, Drive and chat history to SourceX. The owner decides, SourceX runs inventory, rights review and delivery, and the partner never exports or reads a client's mail or files.

Why a Workspace partner sees these opportunities first

You know which clients run their whole business on Google. Years of mail threads, shared drives, calendars and chat spaces describe how a company actually works, and you are often the person who set up the domain, managed the migration or handles the admin console. That makes you a natural point of introduction to the owner.

This page is for resellers, migration specialists and Workspace consultants. SourceX is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google; the referral program is open to anyone.

SourceX handles sourcing, rights review, delivery and payment for companies that license their records. The company keeps ownership, the data is licensed rather than sold, and nothing is binding until it agrees price and terms and signs.

One boundary first: partners never touch the content

Administrative access is not permission. As a Workspace partner you may hold admin rights or support access to a client's tenant. For this program that access is irrelevant: partners give basic fit information only and never export, upload, read or describe confidential records. Email and files can contain personal data, privileged communications, customer information and employee matters.

De-identification and redaction requirements are agreed between SourceX and the company before any work begins, and data is delivered only after an executed agreement and the company's authorization. Keep your own admin role out of it.

Which Workspace clients fit?

Fit depends on size, history and what the records show, not on the tool alone.

SignalWhat to look forWhy AI buyers care

Retention postureArchives kept, not routinely deletedDeleted archives cannot be licensed

Professional services, B2B software, IT services, engineering, logistics and distribution businesses tend to screen well. Many strong companies keep records across 10-15+ systems, so ask about everything around Workspace too.

The retention screen

The question Workspace partners can answer better than most is what the client keeps and for how long. Ask these before any introduction:

  • Size: 50+ full-time employees at peak, contractors excluded?
  • Age: how long has the business operated on its current domain, and did it run another mail system before?
  • Retention: does the company keep mail and files, or do policies delete them on a schedule?
  • Departed staff: are former employees' accounts preserved or purged at offboarding?
  • Ownership: are the records the company's own, or do they mostly belong to its clients?
  • Sponsor: can you reach the owner, CEO, CFO or another authorized representative?

Set your answers beside the company fit checker, a preliminary, non-binding screen that needs no contact details.

When to raise it

MomentWhy it worksWhat to ask
Migration from another mail platformLegacy archives are about to be moved or droppedIs the old archive being preserved, and who controls it?
License true-up or renewalYou are already discussing seats and costIs any unused history worth more than the storage it takes?
Retention policy reviewThe client is deciding what to deleteBefore deleting, has anyone considered whether the history has value?
Offboarding wave or reorganizationAccounts are about to be closedAre departing accounts being preserved?
Ownership changeNew owners ask what the business holdsDo they want to explore a licensing outcome?

The retention review is the clearest trigger. History that is deleted on schedule can never be licensed, so the conversation is worth having before a purge, as long as the client makes its own decisions.

How the introduction works

From your side there are only two moves: the introduction and the wait for the reward.

  1. Share your referral link with the owner, or submit the company through the referral form with basic fit information.
  2. SourceX screens the company for size, history, data breadth and rights, and the owner works with SourceX from there.
  3. The company lists its systems in a data inventory and decides what is in or out of scope. You are not part of that step.
  4. Price and terms are agreed with the company. If the company declines, the process ends with no cost to it.
  5. Buyers review the opportunity; once the company is deal-ready they typically respond within about two weeks.
  6. On close, the company receives one all-in payment, typically within about 60 days of invoicing once the buyer selects the data.
  7. Your reward follows only after SourceX has received its own payment.

What to say

The introduction email builder drafts a version for your own tone.

How rewards work

Partners earn 25% of the eligible platform fees SourceX actually collects from the referred company's licensing deals, capped at $100,000 cumulative per referred company. The reward is payable only after the buyer pays and SourceX receives its fee; a lead, meeting or signed agreement alone does not trigger payment, and no reward is guaranteed. It is a share of SourceX's fee and is never deducted from what the company receives.

Workspace reseller income may be margin or recurring, so a one-time fee share is a different shape; see one-time referral reward vs recurring revenue share. If your reseller or partner agreement has clauses on outside compensation, read them first, and disclose your interest to the client. The channel partner vs referral partner page explains why this program is a referral role.

When not to bring it up

Skip the introduction when:

  • The company peaked under 50 full-time employees.
  • Mailboxes mainly hold other parties' confidential material, as in a law or accounting practice's client matters, and clients have not consented.
  • The workspace is mostly consumer personal information or health information without authorization.
  • Retention policies have already purged the archives.
  • The records were already licensed for AI training.
  • Nobody you know can make a decision for the company.

Next step

Choose one client with a long history and a reachable owner, then register as a partner. To compare this page with other ecosystems, read the playbooks for Acumatica partners and Atlassian solution partners, and use the network opportunity finder to shortlist. MSPs can see additional revenue streams for MSPs, and the who qualifies page lists the baseline.

  1. Step 1Share your linkSend your personal link to a company you know.
  2. Step 2Company appliesThe company applies itself at /apply.
  3. Step 3Buyer selects and paysThe buyer selects and pays for the data and SourceX receives its fee.
  4. Step 4You get your rewardYour share of SourceX fees becomes payable.

Common questions

Do I need admin access to a client's Workspace to refer them?

No, and you should not use it for this. Partners only make the introduction and share basic fit information. The company works with SourceX directly on the inventory, rights review, redaction rules and delivery, and nothing is shared without an executed agreement and the company's authorization.

Can a client with only a few years of Google history qualify?

It can, if it meets the baseline of 50+ full-time employees at peak, several years of documented operations, rights to license the data and an authorized sponsor. Longer histories of 5-10+ years and archived systems from before the move to Google help.

Is a client's email really licensable?

Possibly, depending on what it contains and who owns the rights. Email can include personal data, customer confidences and privileged material, so scope, de-identification and redaction are agreed with the company before work begins. Some mailboxes will be out of scope entirely.

What if the client has a Vault-style retention policy that deletes old mail?

Then the deleted history cannot be licensed. If the policy has not yet run, the owner may decide to preserve records while the opportunity is assessed. That decision belongs to the company, and the company should take its own legal advice on retention obligations.

Does my reseller agreement allow me to take a referral reward?

That depends on the terms you signed, which this site cannot see. Read any clause on outside compensation, conflicts and client confidentiality, ask your vendor contact if unsure, and tell the client you may receive a reward. Licensed professionals should also check their own rules.
