Company fit matrix: is this company worth introducing?

Short answer

Score a potential introduction on four axes — company baseline (US-based, established, 50+ full-time employees at peak), data rights (clear ownership, no blocking restrictions), data maturity (volume, history, exportability), and sponsor readiness (an authorized, engaged internal champion). Strong on all four: introduce now. Weak on rights or baseline: do not introduce.

Not every company with data is a good introduction. This matrix helps you decide in minutes whether a company is worth referring to SourceX — before you spend your credibility on it.

The four axes

1. Company baseline

SignalStrongWeak
LocationUS-based, primary operations in the USNon-US or unclear structure
HistoryYears of operating recordsNewly formed or recently pivoted
Size50+ full-time employees at peak (contractors excluded)Below the threshold even at peak

A company that fails the baseline is not a fit today, regardless of its data.

2. Data rights

SignalStrongWeak
OwnershipCompany owns or clearly controls the dataData belongs to customers or third parties
RestrictionsNo exclusivity, privacy or contractual blocksExisting exclusive licenses or regulated data without counsel review
AuthoritySomeone can sign a licensing agreementUnclear who could authorize a deal

Rights are the most common deal-breaker. When in doubt, the company's own legal review settles it — that is part of the process, not a red flag.

3. Data maturity

SignalStrongWeak
VolumeSubstantial, growing datasetsSmall or static data
HistoryMulti-year coverageA few months of records
ExportabilityData can be exported in standard formatsLocked in a system with no export path

4. Sponsor readiness

AuthorityThe champion can commit the company to evaluateThe contact cannot convene decision-makers
TimingActively exploring data monetizationNo internal conversation has happened

How to read the matrix

  • Strong on all four: introduce now — this is the profile SourceX is built for.
  • Strong baseline and rights, weaker maturity or sponsor: still worth an introduction; qualification will develop it.
  • Weak on baseline or rights: do not introduce. It will not qualify, and a declined referral costs you trust.

What a good introduction earns

If your introduced company qualifies and a deal completes and is paid, you earn 25% of the eligible platform fees SourceX actually collects, capped at $100,000 cumulative per referred company. A lead or meeting alone does not trigger payment — rewards follow completed, paid deals only.

Common questions

What four axes determine if a company is worth introducing?

A company's worth for introduction is determined by its company baseline, data rights, data maturity, and sponsor readiness. All four axes must be strong for an immediate introduction to SourceX. Weaknesses in baseline or rights are immediate disqualifiers.

What makes a company's data rights strong for a referral?

Strong data rights mean the company owns or controls the data, has no exclusivity or privacy restrictions, and an authorized person can sign a licensing agreement. This prevents common deal-breakers during the referral process. A legal review can confirm these rights.

What are the criteria for a strong company baseline?

A strong company baseline requires the company to be US-based, have years of operating records, and possess 50+ full-time employees at its peak. Companies failing this baseline are not suitable referrals for SourceX, regardless of their data. Contractors are excluded from the employee count.

What reward can I expect for a successful company referral?

If your introduced company qualifies and a deal completes and is paid, you earn 25% of the eligible platform fees SourceX actually collects. This reward is capped at $100,000 cumulative per referred company. A lead or meeting alone does not trigger payment.
