Data Opportunity Handoff Checklist for Software Consolidations
When identifying data licensing opportunities during software consolidations, a handoff checklist should cover company eligibility against SourceX's baseline, data licensing rights, types of archives, and the presence of an authorized sponsor. This ensures a smooth referral without handling sensitive company data.
As a fractional CTO navigating software consolidations, you're often in a unique position to identify valuable data assets. SourceX is the enterprise data transaction layer for AI, managing data licensing from sourcing and rights review to delivery and payment. By connecting companies with SourceX, you can help them unlock new value from their data while earning referral rewards.
This checklist is designed to help you prepare a company for referral during a software consolidation, ensuring they meet the necessary criteria for a successful data licensing opportunity. Remember, partners never handle company data.
Data Opportunity Handoff Checklist
I. Company Profile & Baseline Assessment
- US-based company: Confirm the company is headquartered and operates primarily in the United States.
- Employee count: Confirm the company has 50+ full-time employees at its peak (contractors are excluded from this count).
- Operating history: Verify the company has years of operating records, indicating a stable and established history.
- Authorized Sponsor: Identify a key individual within the company who is authorized and willing to sponsor the data licensing initiative.
II. Data & Licensing Rights Review
- Right to license data: Confirm the company explicitly possesses the legal rights to license the data it holds. This is crucial for any transaction.
- Data types in archives: Understand the general categories of data the company collects and archives (e.g., operational, historical, customer interaction, sensor data).
- Data cleanliness/structure (initial view): While SourceX handles the deep dive, an initial understanding of whether data is structured or semi-structured can be helpful.
- Archive types: Note the primary methods and locations where the company's data is archived (e.g., cloud storage, on-premise databases, legacy systems).
III. Operational & Strategic Fit
- Consolidation context: How does this data opportunity fit into the broader software consolidation strategy? Is it a core asset or a newly accessible one?
- Company's objective: What are the company's goals for licensing this data? (e.g., new revenue stream, data monetization strategy, optimizing asset utilization).
- Availability for engagement: Confirm the company's readiness and capacity to engage with SourceX on a data licensing initiative.
IV. Partner Responsibilities & Rewards
- No company data handled: Reiterate that as a partner, you will not handle any company data during the referral process. Your role is purely introductory.
- Reward understanding: Familiarize yourself with the reward structure: Partners earn 25% of the eligible platform fees SourceX actually collects from the referred company's licensing deals. Rewards are capped at $100,000 cumulative per referred company. Rewards become payable only after the buyer pays and SourceX receives its fee.
- Attribution window awareness: Understand that credit goes to the first valid referrer whose introduction leads to a verified company application within the attribution window.
SourceX manages data licensing transactions and does not train AI models. The partner reward is a share of SourceX's fee and is never deducted from what the company receives.
