Who decides whether a company fits an active data opportunity?

SourceX primarily evaluates if a referred company's operational data fits an active buyer program, considering factors like operating maturity, original documentation, and data rights. The referred company ultimately decides its participation and data scope, while SourceX manages the technical and commercial fit.

When you refer a company to SourceX, several parties play a role in determining if that company's proprietary operational data aligns with an active data licensing opportunity. SourceX makes the initial assessment, the referred company makes the ultimate decision, and ongoing buyer demand is a critical factor.

SourceX's Role: Evaluation and Matching

SourceX is responsible for evaluating the referred business against current buyer program requirements. This involves a multi-stage review process:

  1. Assessing Eligibility: SourceX reviews the opportunity based on factors outlined in the initial screening profile, such as the company's operating maturity, the originality of its documentation (e.g., SOPs, project histories), and its rights to license the material without breaching confidentiality or third-party contracts. For more details on these criteria, see /who-qualifies.
  2. Relevance to Buyer Demand: A key part of SourceX's evaluation is determining if the company's material matches a real, active buyer program. SourceX manages a portfolio of AI buyer needs and assesses if the referred company's data can fulfill these requirements.
  3. Permissions and Contracting: If there's a potential fit, SourceX then manages the process of obtaining permissions, drafting contracts, preparing the data for delivery, and collecting payments.

SourceX ensures that only data relevant to a specific buyer program is considered, streamlining the process for both the data owner and the buyer.

The Referred Company's Role: Control and Approval

While SourceX evaluates the fit with buyer demand, the referred company holds ultimate control over its participation and the data it provides:

Decision to Proceed: The company decides whether to engage in discussions and, ultimately, whether to proceed with any data licensing deal. Data Scope and Terms: The company determines precisely what data scope it is willing to provide and agrees to the commercial terms of the licensing agreement. Nothing is shared without its explicit approval.

Your role as a referral partner is to make the introduction; you are not expected to export, upload, or describe confidential company records yourself. The company maintains full control over its data assets.

What Does Not Fit?

Certain types of data or situations are generally not a fit for SourceX's buyer programs:

Personal Consumer Data: SourceX does not deal with personal consumer data. Scraped Data: Data that has been acquired through scraping or means where the company does not fully own or control the rights. Client Data: Material that belongs to the company's clients rather than the company itself. Lack of Documentation: Businesses that only want to sell a one-off file without comprehensive documentation or context. Unauthorized Introductions:* Introductions made without the knowledge or approval of a decision-maker at the referred company.

For a preliminary, non-binding screening, partners can use the company fit checker tool.

When a Reward Is Triggered

Your reward for a successful referral is not tied to the decision of fit alone. It is paid only after the referred company completes a qualifying licensing deal, the data is accepted by the buyer, and SourceX receives its platform fee. A lead, meeting, or signed agreement on its own does not trigger payment. You can track your referral's progress through your partner dashboard.

Rewards are calculated as 25% of SourceX's eligible collected platform fees, capped at $100,000 per referred company. A lead, meeting or signed agreement alone does not trigger payment. See the program terms.
