What is a partner portal, and what can a referral partner see?

A partner portal is a login area where referral partners register, submit introductions, read the program terms and follow what happens to each referral. At SourceX the partner role is limited to introductions and basic fit information, so a portal is never a window into the company's confidential records or a licensing deal.

What is a partner portal?

A partner portal is a login area where a company's referral or channel partners register, submit introductions, see the status of each one, read the program terms and check payout records. It replaces spreadsheets and email threads with one record of who introduced whom and what happened next.

For a SourceX referral partner, the portal is where you register and manage your introductions. It is deliberately limited: a licensing deal is confidential, so the partner role is to introduce and give basic fit information, never to hold or see the company's records.

What can a referral partner expect from a portal?

Portals differ, and SourceX's screens can change, so the portal itself is the authority on what it shows. The table describes the purpose of each typical area, not a guaranteed feature list.

AreaWhat it is forWhat a partner can reasonably expect
RegistrationCreating the account and accepting termsYour details and the published program terms
IntroductionsSubmitting a company or sending a link-based introductionA record that you introduced the company
ProgressShowing where a referral standsWhatever status information the program chooses to share
TermsThe rules for credit and rewardThe current terms and your partner agreement
PaymentShowing reward status once payableCheck the portal and terms for what is shown

What should a partner not expect to handle?

The data and the deal belong to the company, so a partner has no role in:

  • exporting, uploading or describing the company's records or inventory contents
  • negotiating price or terms, or relaying the company's negotiation points
  • reviewing a buyer's comments on the data

This is a feature, not a gap. Partners make introductions and give basic fit information only. A portal that put a company's confidential material in front of referrers would put that confidentiality at risk, so do not ask the company to send you anything for the portal.

How do stages map to the process?

The program has seven steps. How the portal labels progress is shown in the portal, so use this list as the underlying process.

  1. The partner introduces the company by referral form or referral link.
  2. SourceX qualifies it on size, history, data breadth and rights.
  3. The company completes a data inventory.
  4. Price and terms are agreed.
  5. Buyers review.
  6. The deal closes, data is delivered and the company is paid.
  7. The partner reward is paid after SourceX receives payment.

Nothing is binding until the company agrees price and terms and signs. A lead, meeting or signed agreement alone does not trigger a reward. Rewards are 25% of the eligible platform fees SourceX actually collects, capped at $100,000 cumulative per referred company, and they become payable only after the buyer pays and SourceX receives its fee. No reward is guaranteed.

Portal vs spreadsheet vs CRM

ToolStrengthWeakness for a referral partner
Partner portalShows the program's own status and payout recordLimited by design to what the program shares
Your spreadsheetRecords your permission, dates and conversationsCannot see the program's status
Your CRMTracks relationships and follow-upsEasy to put confidential material in it by mistake

Use both: the portal for the program's record and your own file for your side of the introduction. Keep the date, the owner's written permission and the message you sent. The introduction email builder drafts an owner-approved introduction you can save.

Why a portal record matters

Credit depends on a clear record. It goes to the first valid referrer whose introduction leads to a verified company application within the window set in the terms; see what an attribution window is. If a status looks wrong, the guide to audit and reporting rights describes how to ask for evidence, and referral fee clawbacks covers what happens if a paid reward is questioned.

A portal also helps separate your role from a sales role. A referral partner introduces and steps back; a sales rep negotiates and closes. That difference is explained in referral partner vs sales rep and in what a SourceX referral partner is.

Questions to ask about any partner portal

  • Do I see each introduction's status, and who updates it?
  • Is there a payment statement, and does it show how the reward was calculated?
  • Can I export my own records?
  • What happens to my data if I leave the program?
  • Whom do I contact if a record looks wrong?

Next step

Register as a partner to create your account, and read how SourceX referrals work to see the stages. Before you introduce a company, check it against the 50+ full-time employees at peak baseline with the employee count guide.

  1. Step 1Share your linkSend your personal link to a company you know.
  2. Step 2Company appliesThe company applies itself at /apply.
  3. Step 3Buyer selects and paysThe buyer selects and pays for the data and SourceX receives its fee.
  4. Step 4You get your rewardYour share of SourceX fees becomes payable.

Common questions

What does a SourceX partner see after making an introduction?

Check the portal itself for its current screens. What the program describes is a partner role limited to introductions and basic fit information, so do not expect the company's data, a description of its records, the price or its commercial terms. Those belong to the company and SourceX, and partners never export, upload or describe confidential records.

Can I see which AI company is buying the data?

Do not expect to. The partner role covers introductions and basic fit information only, and buyer details are not part of it. If a buyer relationship matters to a company you introduced, the company can discuss it directly with SourceX. Ask the program, in writing, what a partner can see if you need certainty.

Is a partner portal the same as a CRM?

No. A portal is the program's own system showing your introductions, stages, terms and payout records. A CRM is your system for managing relationships. Keep your notes in a CRM if you wish, but never place a company's confidential records there, and treat the portal as the program's record.

How do I know if my referral earned credit?

Check the portal record and your own dated introduction. Credit goes to the first valid referrer whose introduction leads to a verified company application within the attribution window in the terms. If something looks missing, send a short factual message with dates and the referral link or form used.

When does the portal show a reward as payable?

A reward becomes payable only after the buyer pays and SourceX receives its fee. A lead, meeting or signed agreement alone does not trigger payment. How and where payment status is displayed is described in the portal and the program terms, so read those rather than assuming a particular screen.
