How to support a company during information gathering
As a SourceX referral partner, you support a referred company during information gathering by encouraging their engagement and ensuring they understand SourceX's needs, without ever handling their proprietary data yourself. Your role is primarily to facilitate the introduction and subsequent communication.
How to Support a Company During Information Gathering
Once you've introduced a company to SourceX, your primary role shifts to supporting their engagement with our team. This means encouraging them to respond to SourceX's inquiries and providing essential metadata-level information, not proprietary data itself. Your support can significantly streamline the evaluation process and increase the likelihood of a successful data licensing partnership.
Understanding SourceX's Information Gathering
When SourceX begins its review, the aim is to understand the company's operational context and data assets. This process involves assessing several key areas:
Operating Maturity: Verifying operational history, employee count, and market presence, often relevant for buyer programs seeking established entities. Original Documentation: Identifying the types of proprietary material (e.g., SOPs, knowledge bases, project histories) the company generates. Rights to License: Confirming the company's ownership of the material and ability to license it without breaching confidentiality or contracts. Authorized Sponsor: Ensuring an executive or owner is engaged who can approve discussions and potential agreements. Relevance to Buyer Demand:* Evaluating if the company's data aligns with current or future AI buyer needs.
During this phase, SourceX will communicate directly with the referred company to gather these details. You, as the referrer, should never handle or transmit any of the company's proprietary data.
Your Role in Facilitating the Process
Your support is most effective in two key areas: communication and encouragement.
- Encourage Prompt Engagement: After your introduction, SourceX will reach out to the company. Encourage them to respond to SourceX's initial contact and subsequent requests for information in a timely manner. Delays can slow down the entire evaluation process.
- Clarify the Process (Without Speculating): The company may have questions about what SourceX needs or how the process works. You can reiterate key aspects of the SourceX process, such as:
No Data Export by Referrers: Emphasize that SourceX will discuss data directly with them, and you do not need to export or upload anything on their behalf. The company always controls what data, if any, they choose to license. Focus on Metadata, Not Raw Data: Initial discussions revolve around what kind of data they have, its characteristics, and how it's generated, not the data content itself. Confidentiality:* Remind them that all discussions are confidential, and no data is ever shared without their explicit approval and a formal agreement.
- Remind Them of the Benefits: Reiterate why you made the referral in the first place – the potential to monetize their operational data through licensing, without disrupting their core business.
- Stay Informed via Your Dashboard: Your referral dashboard will show the current stage of each referral, including when it's undergoing review. This allows you to follow along without needing to directly intervene in the evaluation itself.
What Not to Do
Do not collect or transmit any company data yourself. Your role is strictly an introduction and facilitator. The company decides what data scope it is willing to provide and agrees commercial terms directly with SourceX. Do not make promises about outcomes or specific payouts. Rewards are tied to actual collected fees, and eligibility depends on many factors. Refer to the rewards section for how rewards are calculated. Do not pressure the company. While encouragement is helpful, the decision to engage and license data must come from the company itself. Do not guess answers. If the company has detailed questions about legal terms, specific data requirements, or buyer programs, direct them to SourceX for accurate information.
By following these guidelines, you can provide valuable support to your referred companies, helping them navigate the initial information-gathering phase smoothly and efficiently, ultimately moving closer to a potential data licensing partnership.
