Your First Month: Turning Connections into Referrals
Building a first-month company referral plan involves systematically screening your existing network against SourceX's company baseline, identifying potential authorized sponsors, and making timely, qualified introductions. Track your progress to align with the attribution window and maximize your referral potential.
As a well-connected operator, your network is a powerful asset. This guide outlines a structured, first-month plan to transform your existing relationships into successful referrals for SourceX, the enterprise data transaction layer for AI.
Week 1: Network Inventory & Screening
Your first step is to systematically review your professional contacts, applying SourceX's specific company baseline. This isn't about cold outreach; it's about identifying strong matches within your established network.
- List Your Contacts: Begin by listing companies and individuals you know well. Think broadly: former colleagues, clients, partners, and industry peers.
- Screen Against SourceX Baseline: For each potential company, quickly check against these key criteria:
- US Company: Headquartered in the United States.
- Size: 50+ full-time employees at peak (contractors are not counted).
- Operating History: Years of operational records.
- Data Rights: They must hold rights to license the data they possess.
- Authorized Sponsor: Is there an individual you know who could be an authorized sponsor within that company?
- Prioritize Top Prospects: Focus on companies that meet all criteria. These are your 'A' list for initial outreach.
Screening Checklist
- Is this a US-based company?
- Does it have 50+ full-time employees at peak?
- Does it have years of operating records?
- Do they own or control rights to license their data?
- Do I know an authorized sponsor within the company?
Week 2: Sponsor Identification & Outreach Strategy
Once you have your prioritized list, shift focus to identifying the best entry points and crafting your initial approach.
- Pinpoint the Authorized Sponsor: For each 'A' list company, identify the person best positioned to explore data licensing. This is often someone in a leadership role related to data strategy, legal, or business development.
- Formulate Your Introduction Angle: Think about your existing relationship with this person. What's the natural, value-driven way to approach them? Frame it in terms of potential new revenue streams or strategic partnerships for their company, rather than just a referral request.
- Example approach: "Given your work at [Company Name] and your focus on [relevant area], I immediately thought of SourceX. They help companies like yours license their valuable data assets to AI labs and data buyers, unlocking new revenue streams without impacting core business. Would you be open to a brief chat to see if there's a fit?"
- Prepare for Initial Conversations: Be ready to briefly explain what SourceX is: the enterprise data transaction layer for AI, managing data licensing from sourcing and rights review to delivery and payment. Remember, SourceX manages data licensing transactions and does not train AI models.
Week 3: Making Introductions & Tracking
Now it's time to act on your strategy. Timely and qualified introductions are key.
- Execute Introductions: Reach out to your identified sponsors. Aim for a warm, personal introduction, ideally connecting them directly with SourceX.
- Log Your Referrals: Crucially, track every introduction. Note the company, the sponsor's name, and the date of your introduction. This is vital because credit goes to the first valid referrer whose introduction leads to a verified company application within the attribution window.
- Follow-up (Respectfully): A polite follow-up a week or so after your introduction can be helpful, but avoid being pushy. Your role is to make the connection; SourceX takes it from there.
Week 4: Review & Refine
Your first month is a learning period. Take time to assess what's working and adjust your approach.
- Review Progress: Look at your introduced companies. Have any engaged with SourceX? Are there common themes among those that have responded positively?
- Expand Your 'A' List: Revisit your broader network. Perhaps some companies you initially screened out now seem more viable, or new connections have emerged.
- Understand Rewards: Keep in mind that partners earn 25% of the eligible platform fees SourceX actually collects from the referred company's licensing deals. Rewards are capped at $100,000 cumulative per referred company. Rewards become payable only after the buyer pays and SourceX receives its fee. A lead, meeting or signed agreement alone does not trigger payment. The partner reward is a share of SourceX's fee and is never deducted from what the company receives.
By following this structured plan, you can effectively leverage your existing network to identify and refer qualified companies to SourceX, setting yourself up for success in the referral program.
- Step 1Share your linkSend your personal link to a company you know.
- Step 2Company appliesThe company applies itself at /apply.
- Step 3Buyer selects and paysThe buyer selects and pays for the data and SourceX receives its fee.
- Step 4You get your rewardYour share of SourceX fees becomes payable.
