Dynamics 365 partner referral program: introduce clients to SourceX
Dynamics 365 partners can introduce clients whose ERP and surrounding systems hold years of records to SourceX, which handles qualification, inventory, buyer review and delivery. If the company licenses its data and the deal is paid, the partner earns a share of SourceX's collected fee. The partner never handles data.
How does a Dynamics 365 partner referral program work with SourceX?
A Dynamics 365 partner introduces a client's owner or CFO to SourceX, and if that company licenses its data to an AI developer and the deal is paid, the partner earns a share of SourceX's collected fee. It is a referral, not a resale: you do not implement, host, price or negotiate anything.
Dynamics partners are well placed because they sit inside mid-market finance functions for years. You know which clients run Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations or Business Central, and which have kept GP or NAV going since before a rebrand, which have several legal entities in one database, and which are about to move on. Those long, structured ledgers and operational histories are what AI buyers look for.
Which Dynamics clients are worth a second look?
Look for the combination of size, history and connected systems, not the product edition.
| Client signal | What to look for | Why buyers care |
|---|---|---|
| Headcount | 50+ full-time employees at peak, contractors excluded | Enough staff to generate connected records |
| Ledger age | Many fiscal years in one GP, NAV or Business Central database | Long histories show how decisions and approvals evolved |
| Entity structure | Several companies or subsidiaries consolidated in one system | Cross-entity workflows are rare in public data |
| Neighbouring systems | CRM, support desk, project tools, email and shared drives around the ERP | Connected systems show whole workflows |
| Workflow outcomes | Approvals, exceptions, purchase orders and invoice disputes with recorded results | Outcome labels make records useful for training |
| Rights | The client created the records and holds the right to license them | Buyers need clean rights |
Distribution, professional services, light manufacturing back offices, construction and software or IT services clients often screen well. The who qualifies page has the full baseline.
The GP-to-cloud moment: a four-question screen
Use these before you mention SourceX to the client. If any answer is a clear no, park it.
- History: does the client hold years of transactions and attachments, including in an older system nobody wants to maintain?
- Breadth: how many systems create records around Dynamics (aim for several, strong companies often have 10-15+)?
- Rights: are the records the client's own, rather than a customer's or outsourcer's data?
- Sponsor: can you reach the owner, CEO, CFO or another authorized representative?
When in a Dynamics engagement should you raise it?
The best moments are the ones where the client is already deciding what to keep.
| Engagement moment | Why it fits | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Dynamics GP or NAV retirement planning | The legacy database may be switched off or read-only afterwards | Ask whether anyone has weighed the history as an asset before shutdown |
| Business Central rollout scoping | The migration plan decides how many years of detail come across | Mention it when the CFO chooses cut-over history |
| Entity consolidation or acquisition integration | Duplicate systems are being merged and retired | Flag the soon-to-be-retired instance |
| Annual planning and budget season | Leadership is hunting for non-operating income | Offer a ten-minute briefing |
| Finance and operations upgrade review | Heavy customization hides years of custom workflows | Ask which custom workflows exist and who owns them |
| Owner exit or sale preparation | The records could add to the equity story | Connect with the M&A advisor |
Illustrative scenario: a distributor retiring GP
Illustrative and fictional: a regional distributor with a few hundred employees has run Dynamics GP for well over a decade and is moving to Business Central, bringing across three years of detail. Its warehouse system, support inbox, CRM and shared drives hold more.
During cut-over planning the controller mentions that the old GP company databases will be archived to cold storage. You ask the CFO whether anyone has considered the older history as something other than a compliance burden. The CFO agrees to a call, uses your referral link, and the company decides for itself whether to go further. You do not see a single record, and nothing happens unless the company signs.
How does the introduction work?
- You confirm the client meets the baseline and that the owner is open to hearing about it.
- You introduce the owner using your referral link, or submit the company through the referral form. The link sends the company to sourcex.si/apply with your code attached, so credit is preserved.
- SourceX qualifies the company on size, history, data breadth and rights.
- The company completes a data inventory and agrees price and terms.
- Buyers review; once a company is deal-ready they typically respond within about two weeks.
- The deal closes, data is delivered, and the company is paid.
- Your reward is paid after SourceX receives payment.
Throughout, you never handle, export or describe confidential records. De-identification and redaction are agreed with the company before work starts.
What to say to the CFO
Keep it short and let the owner decide. A client who says no costs you nothing.
How do rewards work, and what should you check first?
Partners earn 25% of the eligible platform fees SourceX actually collects from the referred company's licensing deals, capped at $100,000 cumulative per referred company. The reward becomes payable only after the buyer pays and SourceX receives its fee. The reward is a share of SourceX's fee and is never deducted from what the company receives. Rewards are not guaranteed, and the signed agreement and the published program terms govern the details.
Check your Microsoft partner agreements and your client engagement letters for rules on referral compensation, disclosure or conflicts. If you advise on audit or assurance work for the client, confirm your independence policy. The related customer referral program vs partner program page explains how this differs from a client loyalty scheme.
When not to bother
- The client has under the baseline of 50+ full-time employees at peak.
- Most records belong to the client's own customers, with no consent to license.
- The database is deleted, or nobody can export it.
- The owner will not consider an exclusive license.
How does this compare with other ERP channels?
The same approach applies across platforms, with different moments: see the pages for NetSuite partners, Sage and Sage Intacct partners, Salesforce consulting partners and technology advisors. If you run a managed practice, the guide to additional revenue streams for MSPs covers where introductions fit alongside recurring services.
Next step
List your Dynamics clients that fit the screen using the network opportunity finder, then register as a partner to get your referral link. A client who prefers to apply on their own can go to sourcex.si/apply.
- Step 1Share your linkSend your personal link to a company you know.
- Step 2Company appliesThe company applies itself at /apply.
- Step 3Buyer selects and paysThe buyer selects and pays for the data and SourceX receives its fee.
- Step 4You get your rewardYour share of SourceX fees becomes payable.
Common questions
Do I need to be a Microsoft partner to refer a Dynamics client?
No. Anyone can join from any supported country. A Microsoft partner agreement may contain its own rules about referral compensation, so check it, but SourceX does not require any Microsoft status to register or make an introduction.
Does the client's ERP database have to be handed over to me?
No. You share headcount, years in operation and the names of the systems around the ERP, nothing more. Handling, exporting or describing confidential records is not part of the partner role. Any data work happens between the company and SourceX, after the company chooses to proceed.
Can a client with a retired GP or NAV system still qualify?
Yes, if the data still exists and can be exported. Companies that are operating, acquired or wound down can all qualify. Archived systems and long histories usually help, but a deleted database cannot be licensed.
When am I paid?
Only after the buyer pays and SourceX receives its fee. A lead, meeting or signed agreement alone does not trigger payment. Credit goes to the first valid referrer whose introduction leads to a verified company application within the attribution window.
What if the client is a Business Central customer on a small team?
The baseline is 50+ full-time employees at peak, contractors excluded, plus several years of documented operations and rights to license. A smaller client does not fit, so do not introduce it. The company fit checker gives a preliminary screen without contact details.
