Preparing Your Referral: Private Codebases for AI Data Licensing
For CTOs and venture advisors, identifying promising companies with valuable private codebases for AI data licensing is a key opportunity. SourceX facilitates these complex transactions, managing everything from sourcing and rights review to delivery and payment (F09). To maximize the success of your referral and ensure a smooth process, consider this checklist before making an introduction.
The SourceX Partner Program: A Quick Overview
As a SourceX partner, you play a crucial role in connecting us with companies ready to license their proprietary data. You earn 25% of the eligible platform fees SourceX collects from successful licensing deals, up to $100,000 per referred company (F01, F02). Rewards become payable after SourceX receives its fee, not just upon a meeting or agreement (F03). Attribution for rewards goes to the first valid referrer whose introduction leads to a verified company application within the attribution window (F04).
Introduction Checklist: Private Codebases
Use this checklist to evaluate a potential referral's readiness. Each point is critical for a successful introduction.
- Company Baseline Profile (for US companies only)
- [ ] The company is based in the United States.
- [ ] Has 50 or more full-time employees at its peak operating period (contractors are not included in this count).
- [ ] Possesses years of operational records and historical data, indicating a substantive codebase history.
- Data Rights and Ownership
- [ ] The company has clear, verifiable rights to license the data embedded within its private codebases.
- [ ] There are no known legal encumbrances, third-party rights, or contractual restrictions that would prevent or complicate data licensing.
- [ ] All necessary internal stakeholders are aware and generally supportive of exploring data licensing opportunities.
- [ ] The data itself is suitable for AI training (e.g., code snippets, historical commits, documentation, etc., that can inform AI models without containing sensitive PII or highly confidential business logic that cannot be licensed).
- Authorized Sponsor
- [ ] A specific individual within the company is identified as an authorized sponsor for this initiative.
- [ ] This sponsor is senior enough (e.g., CTO, VP of Engineering, General Counsel, CEO) to make decisions or secure necessary approvals related to data licensing.
- [ ] The sponsor is aware of and interested in exploring opportunities to license the company's private codebase data to AI labs and data buyers.
- [ ] The sponsor is prepared to engage directly with SourceX, providing necessary information and facilitating discussions.
- Attribution Window Awareness
- [ ] You understand that credit for a referral is attributed to the first valid referrer whose introduction leads to a verified company application within the attribution window (F04). Prompt and clear introductions are key.
Why This Checklist Matters
SourceX focuses on managing data licensing for AI, not training models (F09, F10). By verifying these points upfront, you ensure the company aligns with our core requirements, streamlining the evaluation process and enhancing the likelihood of successful engagement with AI labs and data buyers.
Remember, your reward is a share of SourceX's fee and never impacts what the referred company receives (F07). By making well-prepared introductions, you help companies unlock new value from their proprietary data assets.
