How Latin American firms can refer US companies without touching client data
Latin American firms can join and introduce US companies they know, provided the introduction rests on a personal relationship and never on access to a client's systems. The company must be a US business with 50+ full-time employees at peak, rights to its records and an authorized sponsor. Client-owned data is a red flag.
Can Latin American firms refer US companies?
Yes. Anyone can join the program from a supported country, and firms in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica and neighbouring markets work with US executives every day. Nearshore software teams, BPO and contact-center operators, accounting and finance outsourcers and regional consultancies all have standing relationships. The key is to introduce the right company on the right basis.
The company you introduce must be a US business with 50+ full-time employees at peak (contractors excluded), several years of documented operations, rights to license its records and an authorized sponsor. The most common mistake in this region is treating a client's data as if it were yours to offer.
Which relationships support a proper introduction?
| Your business | Who you know in the US | Introduction is appropriate when |
|---|---|---|
| Nearshore software firm | CTO, VP engineering, product leaders | You can raise it as a separate, personal conversation with the CEO or CFO |
| BPO or contact center | Operations and customer-experience heads | The US company's own support records are the subject, not your call recordings for other clients |
| Accounting or finance outsourcer | Controllers and CFOs | The CFO is the sponsor and you are not using access to their ledgers |
| Staffing or EOR provider | Founders and HR heads | The introduction concerns the US company, not your candidate data |
| Law, tax or advisory boutique | Owners and general counsel | Your engagement terms permit a referral and you disclose it |
The test is simple: would the US executive think of this as a favor between two people who know each other, or as you using your position inside their systems? Only the first is a proper introduction.
Red flag: whose data is it?
Your delivery team probably has access to client tickets, code repositories, call recordings, spreadsheets and chat logs. None of that is yours to describe, export or hint at. The same is true in reverse: a US client's records held by you are not your records.
- Never review client systems to decide whether the client qualifies.
- Never include client names, volumes or system details in an introduction.
- Never suggest that your own firm can license material produced for a client.
- Do check your master services agreement and NDA before introducing a client at all.
If your own firm creates records, such as internal documents, finance, sales and engineering, the question changes: that is a separate matter, and the outsourcing vendor guide explains why client-owned material stays out of scope without consent.
The Cuatro C screen for LatAm partners
- Company: is the target a US business with 50+ full-time employees at peak and several years of documented operations?
- Consent: does your contract with them allow you to make an introduction and receive a reward, and have you disclosed it?
- Clean line: can you make the introduction without referring to any of their confidential records?
- Chief: can you reach the owner, CEO, CFO or authorized representative, rather than a project contact?
The company fit checker offers a preliminary screen without contact details. Advisers working on transactions should also read the guide for M&A advisors.
How does the introduction work from the region?
Partners make introductions and share basic fit information only.
- Register, then share your referral link or submit the company through the referral form.
- The US sponsor applies at sourcex.si/apply; the code on your link protects your credit.
- SourceX screens the company for size, history, data breadth and licensing rights.
- The company inventories its systems and agrees one all-in price and the terms.
- Buyers review and, once the company is deal-ready, typically respond within about two weeks.
- Signature, delivery and payment to the company come first; your reward follows when SourceX has received its fee.
Time zones are friendlier here than in other regions. Mexico, Colombia and Costa Rica overlap closely with US working hours, and Brazil and Argentina overlap for much of the day, so a call with the sponsor is easy to arrange. SourceX will usually run it, not you.
What should you say to a US client or contact?
Adapt it with the introduction email builder. Use the company's language: most US executives expect an email in English, with a phone or video follow-up after their reply.
How do rewards, taxes and paperwork work?
Partners earn 25% of the eligible platform fees SourceX actually collects from the referred company's licensing deals, capped at $100,000 cumulative per referred company. The reward becomes payable only after the buyer pays and SourceX receives its fee; no reward is guaranteed, and it is never deducted from what the company receives. The referral earnings calculator shows the formula and the program terms set the rest.
Tax treatment differs by country: income tax, local invoicing rules such as electronic invoices, withholding and indirect taxes all depend on where you are and how you are organized. Non-US firms are usually asked for US tax forms; our W-8BEN-E walkthrough covers the entity version. This is general information, not legal, tax or financial advice. Confirm with your own counsel, tax adviser or professional body before acting.
This program is for introductions to private US companies. Do not use it for anything involving a public official, and ask your counsel about anti-corruption and disclosure rules in your own country if you are unsure.
When should you raise it?
| Moment | Why it fits | Question to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Contract renewal or annual review | Senior executives are present | Which older systems hold the longest history? |
| Platform migration you are running | Old tools are about to close | Is a full export being retained by the client? |
| Client acquisition or sale | Asset lists are being compiled | Should licensing be assessed alongside the deal? |
| Client's cost review | Leadership looks for non-dilutive value | Would a one-time payment change this year's plan? |
Which situations should you skip?
- The records belong to the client's customers or to you.
- The US business is a small sales office rather than an operating company with 50+ full-time employees at peak.
- Your agreement prohibits referrals or fees.
- The records are mainly consumer personal data or health data without a clear basis.
Where do neighbouring regions differ?
The Singapore, UAE and Canadian guides cover different access routes. The global partner overview lists shared steps.
Next step
Choose a US contact who is not a delivery client or who has consented, run the Cuatro C screen, and register as a partner to make the introduction, or have the sponsor apply at sourcex.si/apply.
- Step 1Share your linkSend your personal link to a company you know.
- Step 2Company appliesThe company applies itself at /apply.
- Step 3Buyer selects and paysThe buyer selects and pays for the data and SourceX receives its fee.
- Step 4You get your rewardYour share of SourceX fees becomes payable.
Common questions
Can a nearshore firm introduce its own US client?
Sometimes. First check your contract and NDA for referral, conflict or confidentiality limits, then disclose your reward to the client. The introduction must not rely on anything you saw inside their systems, and the client's authorized sponsor, not a project contact, decides whether to apply.
Can my BPO license call recordings we handle for US clients?
Not without the clients' consent. Those records belong to the client or its customers, and a vendor cannot offer them for licensing by itself. Your own internal records may be a different matter, and a company that outsources work still needs rights to its data. Read your contracts and consult counsel.
Do I need a US entity to join?
No. Anyone can join from a supported country. Your location and structure affect tax forms and local reporting, so decide with your adviser whether to register as an individual or a company, and use the same details for payee information later.
How do I know whether my country is supported?
Anyone can join from a supported country, and the registration flow is where your country is confirmed. Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil and Costa Rica are common bases for nearshore and finance firms, but do not assume yours is covered. Confirm local tax and professional rules with a local adviser before you sign up.
What if the US executive prefers to apply without me?
That is fine if they apply through your referral link, because it carries your referral code to sourcex.si/apply and preserves credit. Credit goes to the first valid referrer whose introduction leads to a verified company application within the attribution window, so use the link rather than forwarding contact details by hand.
