The Ideal Candidate: Understanding the SourceX Baseline
When searching for companies, keep the core SourceX company baseline in mind:
- US Companies: We're looking for US-based companies.
- Size Matters: Introduce companies with 50+ full-time employees at peak (contractors are excluded). This indicates a significant volume of internal communication.
- Established Records: Companies should have years of operating records, ensuring a substantial history of data.
- Ownership & Authorization: They must possess the rights to license the data and have an authorized sponsor willing to engage with SourceX.
These criteria help us focus on businesses that generate significant, well-documented internal communications suitable for AI labs and data buyers.
Why Workplace Chat Archives?
Workplace chat platforms (like Slack, Microsoft Teams, internal messaging systems, etc.) are rich sources of conversational data. For AI labs and data buyers, this data can be invaluable for training and improving various models, from natural language processing to sentiment analysis and corporate intelligence. Unlike public social media, internal chat often contains specific, contextual, and in-depth discussions relevant to business operations, projects, and decision-making.
Where to Look: Targeted Discovery for MSPs and Advisors
Your existing client base and professional networks are excellent starting points. Consider companies in sectors that are typically heavy users of digital collaboration tools and generate a high volume of internal communication:
- Technology & Software Development: These companies live and breathe digital communication. Development teams, support staff, and project managers often use chat extensively.
- Digital Marketing & Advertising Agencies: Fast-paced environments, client communications, and campaign coordination often rely heavily on chat.
- Consulting Firms: Internal project discussions, client strategies, and knowledge sharing are common in chat archives.
- Financial Services (non-regulated data): While sensitive, many internal operational discussions could be valuable, provided they are non-confidential or anonymizable and within compliance frameworks.
- E-commerce & Retail (corporate functions): Beyond customer-facing interactions, internal teams manage logistics, inventory, and marketing via chat.
- Media & Publishing: Editorial discussions, content creation, and production workflows are often documented in chat.
Discovery Checklist:
- Do they meet the 50+ FTE (US) requirement?
- Have they been operating for several years?
- Which internal communication platforms do they use (Slack, Teams, etc.)?
- Is there an authorized sponsor who could explore data licensing?
- Does the company have clear data governance policies?
